Sir Bill & Gentle Mike: The Badger Who Woke Up Too Soon

One mist-soaked morning, when the fog curled low like sleepy cats, Gentle Mike invited Sir Bill on a “quiet reconnaissance mission” to the far hedgerow. “
Just a little stroll,” he promised.
But with Mike, strolls have a way of becoming quests.
As they padded near the old fallen log, a deep hrrmph rumbled from within.
Sir Bill froze. Gentle Mike froze. Even the fog froze.
Then—out popped a very wide, very rumpled, very awake badger who clearly did not appreciate early visitors.
The badger blinked. Snorted. And took one unmistakable step forward.
“Retreat!” Sir Bill whispered loudly (which is basically shouting). The two cats spun around and bolted, tails high, paws flying over moss and grass.
The badger huffed once, unimpressed, and crawled right back into his log.
Only when they reached the barn did they dare to breathe again.
“An escape by our whiskers,” Gentle Mike declared proudly.
Sir Bill nodded, chest heaving with dramatic flair.
“A victory of strategy,” he insisted.
But they both knew: sometimes heroes run—and that’s perfectly noble.
