What Animals Teach Us About Community

When people visit Pleasant Pasture, they often expect to see animals simply living side by side. What they don’t expect is the sense of community that quietly unfolds across the land.
Animals understand something humans sometimes forget—that safety and belonging are deeply connected. In the pasture, the herd naturally gathers together, watching out for one another. Leaders step forward when needed, and the group moves as a unified family.
Our gentle giant Warren the Warrior often stands at the center of that calm leadership. With his watchful eyes and steady presence, he keeps a quiet guard over the pasture and the animals who share it. Smaller creatures seem to sense his protective nature, sometimes resting nearby as if they know they are safe.
But leadership in the animal world isn’t loud or forceful. It’s steady. It’s patient. It’s built on trust. Each animal plays their role in the rhythm of sanctuary life—whether it’s a hog rooting happily through the soil, a cat patrolling the barn, or a steer calmly watching over the herd.
Watching them reminds us that community doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it’s as simple as sharing space, respecting one another, and creating an environment where everyone can feel safe.
If the spirit of this sanctuary speaks to you, we invite you to become part of our community as well. Your donations help us provide lifelong care, food, shelter, and love for the animals who have found their way home here.
