Welcome to the World, Willy! 🐮💕

There’s a brand-new heartbeat at the sanctuary, and it belongs to someone very small, very special, and very wiggly.

Meet Willy, our newest resident and the very first calf born here at Pleasant Pasture! He’s the wide-eyed son of Shasta, our beautiful two-year-old miniature Hereford heifer, and his arrival has filled our pastures (and hearts) with wonder.

Willy made his grand entrance into the world hooves-first—back hooves, to be exact—which gave us all a bit of a scare. But thanks to a late-night team effort and the calm strength of our kind farmer neighbors, he was gently delivered and placed right beside his brave young mama. Shasta, though new to motherhood, settled into her role with grace, instinct, and a deep, quiet love for her little boy.

At just a week old, Willy is a pint-sized burst of personality. With enormous brown eyes, a tiny pink tongue that’s always sneaking out, and a fluffy coat the color of cinnamon and cream, he’s already stealing hearts left and right. He’s a little shy with new faces, peeking out from behind Shasta’s legs or curling up under her belly—but give him a few minutes, and his curious, playful side starts to show. A gentle nudge. A hop. A wobbly chase after a butterfly. Willy is discovering his world one joyful moment at a time.

This week, he’s been meeting his pasture mates, watching the older steers graze with quiet fascination, and tentatively approaching the cat colony (who were—unsurprisingly—unimpressed). His favorite pastime? Zooming in little circles, tongue sticking out, while Shasta watches like the proud mama she is.

Willy’s life began with a challenge, but he is thriving now in a world full of green grass, sunshine, and love. It’s the kind of beginning every little being deserves—and the kind of joy your support makes possible.
