Bad Omen?

Updated: Dec 21, 2022

Scottish Highland Heifers Carol and Henrietta are twins.

Does ancient superstition underlie the REAL reason they were surrendered to the Sanctuary?

In folklore, when a cow has twin calves it considered a bad omen and the calves are immediately given away. In the case of Carol and Henrietta, we were told that they were too small and sickly to ever be of use to the farmer, but maybe there were other reasons for their being given up. We may never know.

Regardless, the girls have only brought joy and love to the Sanctuary, proving not ALL fairytales are true!

Other interesting (human) twin facts:

  • the birth rate for twins has increased a whopping 76 percent since 1980

  • 40 percent of twins invent their own language

  • twins appear to interact socially with each other just hours after birth, and ultrasounds show them doing so starting at 18 weeks in utero

  • moms of twins tend to live longer than moms without twins

  • identical twins don’t have identical fingerprints

NO bad anything - just amazing and good all around the Twin World!

Have a wonderful week.
